Starlight Sharing Foundation (Chairman Hong-gil Kim) announced on the 26th that a delegation of the Laos Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and 8 people including local education officials visited Korea from the 22nd to the 26th to exchange with domestic universities, educational institutions, and local governments. The delegation included the Vice Minister of the Laos Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, as well as directors, section chiefs, and high-ranking officials from technical education.
The Laos Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare delegation that visited Korea this time expressed their will to carry out projects for personnel exchange between the two countries from Laos to settlement in Korea, and exchanged opinions on ways to promote cooperation.
On the 24th, Shin Ansan University (President Ji Ui-sang), Laos Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Employment Department (Vice Minister Ms. Anousone KHAMSINGSAVATH), Labor Technology Development Institute (President Mr. Bounma SITTHISOM), and Starlight Sharing Foundation (Chairman Kim Hong-gil) signed an MOU (Business Agreement) for the development of mutual cooperation among the four parties.
Then, the Laos Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare delegation visited Ansan City (Mayor Lee Min-geun) and discussed ways to increase the inflow of excellent international students in the region.
On the 25th, they signed an MOU with Songgok University (President Wang Deok-yang) and each institution, laying the foundation for promoting cooperation in attracting international students and supporting their settlement in Korea. In the afternoon, they visited Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and exchanged opinions with the Director of Agriculture and the Chairman of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Local Government Committee Hwang Hak-soo on various exchange and cooperation plans including personnel exchanges, such as supporting the settlement of international students between the two regions.
The Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare delegation decided to strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries through this visit to Korea. They decided to actively cooperate in discovering customized cooperation projects for local education and settlement of domestic workers and in providing long-term support for Lao nationals to settle in Korea.
The visit of the delegation to Korea this time was made possible by the signing of an MOU between the Starlight Sharing Foundation and the Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare early this year on educational support projects to improve the quality of life of Lao nationals. The two organizations agreed to provide basic education in language acquisition, culture, and technology in Laos for studying abroad in Korea.
In addition, the Lao government agreed to guarantee various expenses incurred by excellent Lao talents studying abroad in Korea, and domestic universities agreed to conduct in-depth educational courses to help Lao students successfully study abroad.
In addition, local governments agreed to support various part-time jobs necessary for Lao students to cover tuition and living expenses while studying in cooperation with local companies.
Chairman Kim Hong-gil said, “As the Laotian people are becoming more interested in pro-Korean sentiments and cultures such as K-culture, exchanges between the two countries are becoming more active,” and “We will strengthen support for attracting international students and settling in Korea so that international students can settle in Korea and assimilate into a multicultural society in a more practical way, thereby fundamentally resolving the problem of a shortage of domestic manpower due to low birth rates and an aging population.”
